Verse Compass

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 13, 2026

Verse Compass helps you reflect on one daily Bible verse with context, application, and saved-verse tools. This policy describes how Verse Compass handles information.

Verse generation

The app sends verse-generation requests to the Verse Compass backend. The backend may use OpenAI to generate verse and reflection content. The OpenAI API key is stored only on the backend server and is not stored in the iOS app.

Requests include a persistent anonymous per-install device identifier so the backend can cache one daily verse and apply refresh limits without requiring an account.

Optional Calendar and Reminders context

Calendar and Reminders access is optional. If you enable either permission, the app minimizes and sanitizes context before it may be used for generation. This can include safe event or reminder titles, broad time bands, counts, sync status, enabled feature flags, safety tags, and redaction indicators.

Optional personal context notes may also be used for generation after on-device filtering. Notes, URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, attendees, exact private details, unsafe crisis wording, and instruction-like content are filtered or excluded before generation where the app is designed to remove them.

Optional weather lookup

If you enable weather context, Verse Compass may use approximate location on device to request current weather from Apple Weather. Coordinates are used for weather lookup; weather-derived context may be used to make the daily reflection more relevant.

Optional notifications

If you enable daily verse notifications, Verse Compass sends the backend the APNs device token, anonymous install identifier, app bundle topic, APNs environment, locale, timezone, chosen notification time, and skip-Sundays preference so the backend can deliver the reminder.

Lock screen notification payloads do not include verse text, verse references, personal context, calendar details, reminder details, weather details, or generated devotional copy.

On-device data

Saved verses and preferences are stored locally on your device. Verse Compass does not require an account.

Analytics, tracking, and payments

The launch website does not include third-party analytics, ad pixels, tag managers, or tracking SDKs. Paid personalisation is handled through Apple App Store subscriptions. The app may send a signed StoreKit transaction to the backend only to verify personalisation access; payment details are managed by Apple and are not stored by Verse Compass.

Data storage and security

The OpenAI API key, APNs credentials, notification subscriptions, StoreKit verification configuration, daily verse cache, and server configuration are kept on the backend. The iOS app stores saved verses and preferences locally. Network requests are sent over HTTPS in production.

Retention and choices

You can disable Calendar, Reminders, Location, and weather-related permissions in iOS Settings. Locally saved app data can be removed by deleting the app or by using the relevant in-app controls where available.

Sharing of information

Verse Compass does not sell personal information. Optional generation context may be processed by the Verse Compass backend and OpenAI only to provide the verse and reflection features described above.

Children's privacy

Verse Compass is not designed to collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through support contact, email us so it can be addressed.

International users

If you use Verse Compass outside the country where its servers or providers operate, your information may be processed in those locations as part of providing the service.
